Protect WordPress after a hack or restore with ongoing care from Revive Guard—the prevention layer from Wayback Revive. A restore fixes today. Weekly updates, malware scans and verified off-host backups protect tomorrow, handled by real people.

An outdated plugin, a missing backup or an expired domain can take a site down again. Ongoing care closes those gaps before they turn into the next incident.
Weekly WordPress core, plugin and theme updates, with a snapshot first and auto-rollback if anything breaks.
Weekly malware scan with a full file integrity check, flagged immediately if anything looks wrong.
Backups are encrypted, stored independently of your host and verified restorable. See security, updates, backups and uptime.
A restore puts clean files back. It doesn’t always close the door the attacker used, or remove what they left behind. When a site is reinfected after a cleanup, it’s usually one of these five reasons.
Attackers often leave a small file that can rebuild the infection: in the uploads folder, in a must-use plugin, or as code injected into a normal plugin or theme file. Delete the visible malware but miss this, and it comes back.
A WordPress cron job, a server cron job or a setting stored in the database can recreate files or admin users hours or days after the site looked clean.
If the plugin or theme that let them in is still outdated, the same exploit works again. Plugins are where most new WordPress vulnerabilities are found.
Changed the WordPress password but not hosting, SFTP, the database or the admin email account? Any of those lets them back in. So does an old login session or an application password nobody noticed.
A backup taken after the break-in restores the backdoor along with your site. That’s why how far back your backups go matters.
This isn’t a rare edge case. Patchstack’s State of WordPress Security in 2026 report found that 91% of new WordPress vulnerabilities in 2025 were in plugins. Using Monarx malware data, it also found that uploader scripts, small tools attackers plant so they can come back later, nearly doubled in June 2025 and stayed high for the rest of the year. Some infections also show search engines spam while the site owner sees a normal page, so a site can look fine to you and still be infected.
The weeks right after a restore are when you find out whether the fix held. Here’s what to do, in order, and which parts a Revive Guard plan takes off your plate.

Usually because the cleanup removed what you could see but not what rebuilds it: a hidden backdoor, a scheduled task, a database entry, a password that wasn’t changed, or the outdated plugin that let them in. See why hacked sites get hacked again.
Yes. Change them once the site is clean, not only when you first notice the hack: hosting, SFTP, the database, every WordPress admin and the admin email account. Then replace the security keys in wp-config.php so old sessions are logged out. The first 30 days list has the rest.
Our Emergency malware cleanup add-on is $149 one-time: full scan, removal, hardening and a written report. See compare plans and add-ons.
Monitor alerts you and keeps off-host backups, but it doesn’t update WordPress or scan for malware. The free evaluation will tell you honestly which plan fits.
Guard: priority restore from a clean backup, typically same-day. Shield: restored within 4 hours of your report, in writing. Monitor: one-time $99 restore, no SLA.
